Your “friendly” dog might ruin someone else’s day, or even their month! Hear me out!
 I wish this sort of accident was a one off, and fortunately this time it wasn’t too serious, but this is a regular occurrence and makes navigating life with a reactive or aggressive dog more difficult than it needs to be.

I wish everyone had the opportunity to care for a reactive or aggressive dog for a week, so they could walk in the shoes of others in order to understand how much stress, training, sweat and tears goes into some of these dogs.
 If your dog is off-leash, please observe your surroundings. Follow leash laws, recall your dog as soon as you see someone else in the area on-lead, teach reliable recall on a long training leash, and respect the space of others; even if you think your dog “just wants to say hi”, the other might not!
 Not all dogs have the luxury of being able to exercise in an off-leash dog park. Let’s work together, to provide all dogs with an opportunity for a stress free walk. 🐾

 Nina the mini dachshund is shy and sensitive, while Artie the schnauzer puppy is bursting with energy.

During our group Walk & Train, I’m watching their friendship unfold. Little by little, Nina learns to trust, and Artie learns to listen. Initially, she avoided him completely, and after only a couple of walks they’re making great progress.

Socialisation isn’t just about play. It’s about calm, respectful interactions — dogs learning to read and respond to each other’s cues and take turns.

💥 Reinforce on the same side and encourage looking up at you!

She’s now reliable off-leash and knows all her basic training including come, stay and leave it.

She was also reactive to large dogs, but it now much more confident and her owner knows how to best set her up for success in many different situations 🐕

✅ Grab the toy on cue YES!
❌ Let go on cue LEAVE IT!
✅ Game starts again

The faster they leave it, the quicker the game starts again! ✨

This game is a particularly great outlet for herding breeds (stalk) and terriers (chase and ‘kill’). What breed specific enrichment activities do you provide for your dog?

Always use caution when using toys around multiple dogs! This crew know each other very well and are very tolerant of one another 🐶
